Mountain View Garden Club Schedule

The Mountain View Garden Club meetings and activities are open to all. Please join us to learn more, lend a hand, and enjoy gardening friends.


2008 Meetings and Activities:

Meeting, Tuesday, March 18, 2008
The March program and meeting will begin at 7:00p.m. at the Clifford Township Fire Hall. All are welcome. Penn State Master Gardeners Donna Zagrapan and Colleen Bobrovcan will provide information on Tree Pruning and Deer Control.

Meeting, Tuesday, April 15, 2008
The April program and meeting will begin at 7:00p.m. at the Clifford Township Fire Hall. All are welcome. Wendy and Rich Seymour owners of Burdick Creek Gardens will provide information for growing garlic and ideas for the wonderful and healthy things we can do with garlic. The Seymours are members of the Garlic Seed Foundation and are Certified by the Dept. of Agriculture.

Tree Planting, Saturday, April 19, 2008
Meet at 10a.m. at the Clifford Twp. Bldg. to plant seven bare root trees alongside the cemetery. The holes will be pre-dug. Dirt and mulch will be available on site. Bring gloves, shovels and rakeS.

Adopt-a-Highway Cleanup, Sunday, April 27, 2008
Meet at 8:30a.m. at St. Pius Church on Rt. 106 between Royal and West Clifford. Bags and gloves provided. Wear a bright color as we will be walking on Rt. 106.

Trip to Longwood Garden, Friday, May 2, 2008
$48.00 fee includes bus transportation and entrance ticket. Sign up early because of limited seating. You can sign up by email to: Helen or Deb.

Countryside Conservancy Stewardship Award Presentation
Wednesday, May 7, 2008

The Countryside Conservancy is awarding the Mountain View Garden Club with a Conservancy's 2008 Stewardship Award. The presentation will be held on at 7:00p.m. in Evans Hall at Keystone College with coffee bar and desserts afterwards. The Conservancy acknowledges and applauds the garden clubs "stewardship" in planting trees, restoring the stone wall in Clifford, creating and maintaining gardens throughout the community and other good work.

Meeting, Tuesday, May 20, 2008
The May program and meeting will begin at 7:00p.m. at the Clifford Township Fire Hall. All are welcome. Donna Zagrapan, a Penn State Master Gardener, will present ideas on how we can save our rain water to maintain our properties while helping our environment.

Plant Exchange and Marketplace, Sunday, June 1, 2008
Please join us for a very fun afternoon from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Bell Mountain Road (between Clifford & Thompkinsville). The event includes perennials from club members' gardens for exchange, plants for purchase and local vendors selling paintings, jewelry, pottery, and much more! Refreshments, too!

Union Dale Rail-Trail Maintenance, Thursday, June 12, 2008
The NE PA Rail-Trail will hold a ½ Marathon on Sept. 7, 2008 with a course from Forest City to Union Dale and back. In preparation for the event, the garden club will meet at 6:30p.m. on June 12 to weed, plant lilies and rudbeckia, and mulch the Union Dale Trailhead near Cable's Store. Bring shovels, clippers, etc. and join us if you can.

Gardening Program: Lillies, Tuesday, June 17, 2008
The June program will begin at 6:30p.m. at the home of Dick and June Lambertson in Thompson, PA. There will be an informal talk on lilies followed by a garden tour.
Garden Club members only.

Gardening Program: Casual Formality; Friday, July 18, 2008
The morning will begin with a 10:00a.m. tour of the gardens at the home of Cherie Swetter on Main Street, Clifford, followed by an 11:00a.m. brunch.

Gardening Program: Japanese Garden Tour, Saturday, August 2, 2008
David Trachentenburg and Gerry Perlman will give a tour beginning at 11:00a.m. of the gardens at their home in Clifford, PA.
Garden Club members only.

The D&H Distance Run, Sunday, Sept. 7, 2008
Many volunteers are needed to assist NEPA Rail-Trail with marathon registration, parking, water stations, race results, pre- & post race activities. Plan to come - this will be a fun event!

Meeting & Gardening Program: Landscaping with Stone, Tuesday, October 21, 2008
The meeting and program will begin at 7:00p.m. at the Clifford Township Fire Hall. Paul Kochmer from Kochmer Stone will provide ideas and information on landscaping with stone. Open to public.

Meeting & Gardening Program: Bonsai, Tuesday, November 18, 2008
The meeting and program will begin at 7:00p.m. at the Clifford Township Fire Hall. Tom Lanton will share his ways of growing and maintaining Bonsai. Open to the public.
