4th Annual Plant Exchange and Marketplace will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on
Sunday, June 1, 2008 at Bell Mountain Farm (between Clifford & Thompkinsville).
The event is open to the public. Everyone is welcome to bring
2 potted perennials to exchange. The event includes perennials from club members' gardens
for exchange, plants for purchase and 20 local vendors selling paintings, jewelry,
pottery, soaps, candles and much more! As a special feature, Rob Rave of Rave Landscaping
will provide tours the beautiful gardens. Please join us for a very fun afternoon;
refreshments, too!
Directions to Bell Mountain Farm:
From I-81, take exit 202 towards Tompkinsville; left at Village Auto Sales.
Go 1.8 miles. Follow signs & balloons.
From Clifford, take SR 2012 (the first right after light going East on Rt. 106) at
DeNike's Plumbing & Heating. Continue 2.2 miles; driveway on right. Follow signs
& balloons.

Guest Speaker at Annual Meeting
Lee Nelson, horticultural speaker and consultant for beautification projects in the
Bimghamton area was the guest speaker on Wednesday, October 10,
2007 at 7:00p.m. at the Clifford Twp. Fire Hall. Ms. Nelson presented a slide program
and explained how to keep gardens looking good all year long. The meeting was well
attended by members and guests; all enjoyed the program and refreshments.
A brief meeting and election of officers followed.

Square Dance & BBQ Dinner
The Mountain View Garden Club and Clifford Twp. Volunteer Fire Company will co-sponsored
this event at the Fire Hall on Saturday, September 29, 2007. The
firemen will be serving a chicken barbecue dinner. A caller will be leading the dancing.
Dust off your boots, grab your hat & join us for dancing and fun! The tickets are $20.00 per person; the event is BYOB.

Trip to Wave Hill
On Friday, August 24, 2007, the club will visit 28 acres of gardens, grounds and woodland
at Wave Hill, renowned for its intimacy of scale and carefully cultivated serendipity of
the natural environment. In the afternoon the tour continues at the Cloisters, a branch of
the Metropolitan Museum of Art devoted to the art of medieval Europe, located in
Fort Tyron Park in Northern Manhattan, overlooking the Hudson River.
A passenger bus has been reserved; tickets are $61 - sign up early!

Wildflower & Herb Program
The monthly meeting was held July 11 at the Lackawanna State Park. Members were taken
on a nature walk led by Environmental Education Specialist, Angela Lambert. She pointed
out many local wildflowers and a few invasive plants. Following the walk, a presentation
on herbs was given by Master Gardeners, Selma Etter and Colleen Bobrovcan.

Third Annual Plant Exchange
The Third Annual Plant Exchange was held on Sunday, June 3, 2007 at Crystal Lake.
Gardeners exchanged perennials from their gardens. Beautiful selections of perennials
grown by Garden Club members were also available for purchase. A Marketplace featured vendors selling a variety of crafts and unique
products including watercolors, jewelry, pottery, iron gardenware, flavored dipping oils,
dolls, hand painted clothing, and much more...

Program by Paul Epsom
Paul Epsom, owner of Greystone Gardens, a specialist garden center in Clarks Summit,
spoke at our April 12th meeting at the Clifford Township Municipal Building. Epsom is
also The Victory Garden's garden correspondent, hosting the series'
"Tried & True" segments and providing viewers with indispensable advice and
gardening guidance. He has been featured on WNEP's successful Home and Backyard
TV program for well over 400 episodes. In 2003 and 2004 Paul won Garden Globe awards for his
work on both of these programs.

Wreath Making Demonstration
On Wednesday, November 8, 2006, Kristen of Kristen's Creations on Main Street in
Clifford gave a wreath making demonstration to the club. Starting with a long length of
fresh grape vine, she formed a circle then wove the vine in and out and around the
beginning circle, artificial and dried flowers were applied and a bow was added as the finishing touch.
A lucky club member won the wreath as a door prize.

Orchid Program & Sale
On Wednesday, October 11, 2006, Richard Jost, a member of the National Orchid Society
and the owner of Jungle Paradise located in Benton, PA presented a program about
Orchids. A variety of samples from his extensive orchid collection were available
for sale. Refreshments and door prizes followed the lecture and Q&A session.

Invasive Plants Lecture
On Wednesday, April 12, 2006, Donna Murphy, a Technology Transfer Specialist with the
USDA Forest Service, gave a presentation on Invasive Plants in NE PA. Her lecture
focused on defining the term "invasive plant", the characteristics of
invasive plants, their degrading impact on our native environments, and ways to
protect healthy native plant communities. Brochures including a list of invasive
plants in PA were provided by DCNR for members.

Second Annual Plant Exchange
The Second Annual Plant Exchange was held on Sunday, June 4, 2006, at
the home of Kathy Flora. Everyone was invited to trade two potted plants for two of
equal size or buy plants donated by garden club members. Beautiful selection of
perennials, herbs and annuals were available from In The Dell Herb Farm and Gunn Hill
Nurseries. Other vendors included Clay Chic, Heather's Handpainting, Metal Urge,
Stony Meadow Pottery, and Whistlehill Watercolors. There was a Treasure Hunt, too!

Buffet BBQ Dinner & Country Square Dance
The Garden Club was pleased to participate in Clifford Township's
Bicentennial Celebration by hosting a Country Square Dance on Friday, June 30, 2006
at the Clifford Township Fire Hall. A buffet BBQ Dinner was catered by Munley's Grove
followed by a variety of sweet treats made by club members for dessert. Everyone enjoyed
music for square dancing and polka, twist, cha cha, swing, jitterbug and others!

The "Earthbox",
a Gardening Revolution
The Garden Club hosted a lecture by Molly Philbin, education
coordinator for the Earthbox Company, on Wednesday, October 12, 2005
at 7pm at the Clifford Township Fire Company Hall. The presentation touched on
the development, test trials and the resulting product with its application for
commercial and leisure gardeners. The system allows for simplified and automatic
watering and fertilizing and the elimination of weeding. Equally suitable for flowers
and vegetables, the Earthbox can be used on farms, at public sites, on patios, and
even to adorn bridges.

Grey Towers Tour
On Friday, September 23, 2005, club members enjoyed a tour of the Grey Towers
National Historic Site.
Grey Towers was completed in 1886 and is the ancestral home of Gifford Pinchot.
Together with President Theodore Roosevelt, Pinchot helped in the formation of the
USDA Forest Service and became its first Chief Forester. He also twice served as
the Governor of Pennsylvania.
The guided tour took the group through the mansion and several garden areas.
The Pinchots believed in blending structure with landscape, including walkways,
patios, gardens and water areas around the home.
After the tour, there was time to shop in Milford and later have lunch at Settler's
Inn in Hawley.

Gibbs Perennial Gardens Tour
On Friday, June 24, 2005, Garden Club members toured Gibbs Perennial Gardens in LeRaysville.
The tour, lead by the gardens owner, included bank plantings, stone gardens, propagating beds
for sun, and a special shade garden section. After the tour there was time to select plants
from over 700 varieties of herbaceous perennials and thousands of containers.
The next stop was at Gilley's Restaurant in Stevensville, a wonderful restaurant
furnished with an unusual and charming collection of porcelain enamel topped
tables, for a delicious cold salad lunch plate before heading out to the bakery and
a bit more shopping.

Plant Exchange 2005
On Sunday, June 5, 2005, a very successful Plant Exchange & Sale was held by the
Mountain View Garden Club. The event took place at the home and gardens
