Mountain View Garden Club Community Projects


Projects in the community provide us the opportunities to show our commitment to share our knowledge and love of gardening while beautifying the area.

Projects 2008
Our upcoming community projects will include a spring Adopt-a-Highway clean-up, on-going maintenance of gardens established by the club, plus care and watering of trees planted in Clifford Township.

Tree Planting, Saturday, April 19, 2008
Meet at 10AM at the Clifford Twp. Bldg. to plant seven bare root trees alongside the cemetery. The holes will be pre-dug. Dirt and mulch will be available on site. Bring gloves, shovels and rakes.

Adopt-a-Highway Cleanup, Sunday, April 27, 2008
Meet at 8:30AM at St. Pius Church on Rt. 106 between Royal and West Clifford. Bags and gloves provided. Wear a bright color as we will be walking on Rt. 106.

Veteran's Memorial Planting, Monday, May 19, 2008
Flowers and shrubs will be planted at the Veteran's Memorial in front of the Clifford Twp. Building. Meet at 3p.m. to plant and mulch. Please lend a hand to prepare the area for the upcoming Memorial Day service in honor of local veterans.

Union Dale Rail-Trail Maintenance, Thursday, June 12, 2008
The NE PA Rail-Trail will hold a ½ Marathon on Sept. 7, 2008 with a course from Forest City to Union Dale and back. In preparation for the event, the garden club will meet at 6:30p.m. to weed, plant lilies and rudbeckia, and mulch the Union Dale Trailhead near Cable's Store. Bring shovels, clippers, etc. and join us if you can.

Projects 2007
Rail-Trails of NEPA Garden Club Assists Rail-Trail
Early in November 2007, club members and spouses (many are also R-T members) volunteered to plant 15 bare root trees on the D&H Trail in Forest City. Funding for the trees was awarded to Rail-Trail by the NEPA Urban & Community Forestry Program. To learn more about the local Rail-Trail, visit www.nepa-rail-trails.org.
At the same time, three trees also funded by the NEPA Urban & Community Forestry Program were planted on Main Street, Clifford.
Perennials Planted in Herrick Twp. Garden Planted at Herrick Township Building
In June 2007, club members planted a perennial garden at the entrance to the Herrick Township Building. A variety of plants were donated from club members gardens and from the Plant Exchange. The Township participated in the project by preparing the planting bed with top soil, providing mulch, and watering the gardens. The Garden Club thanks the Township Supervisors for this opportunity and their assistance.
Maples Planted in Clifford Trees Planted in Clifford
In April 2007, seven trees were planted at "Welcome" sign and cemetery on Main Street by club members and community volunteers. Funding for the trees has been awarded to the CTCA by the NEPA Urban & Community Forestry Program. Thank you to all those who volunteered! Their time will be valued as "in-kind donations" towards matching the grant funds.
PennDot "Adopt-a-Highway" "Adopt-a-Highway" Semi-Annual Clean-Ups
On April 29, 2007, Garden Club members spent the morning cleaning up a two mile section of Routes 106 & 374 from Royal to West Clifford.

Projects 2006
Chanticleer Pear blossom Garden Club Plants Trees
On Friday, November 10, 2006, Garden Club members assisted with a fall tree planting as a part of the Clifford Township Tree Removal and Planting Project Grant. The community beautification project involved planting and mulching sixteen trees including flowering Chanticleer Pears, Karpick Maples and a Littleleaf Linden. Thank you to all those who volunteered! Their time will be valued as "in-kind donations" towards matching the grant funds.
PennDot "Adopt-a-Highway" "Adopt-a-Highway" Semi-Annual Clean-Ups
In April 2006 & Sept. 2006, Garden Club members spent a weekend morning cleaning up a two mile section of Routes 106 & 374 from Royal to West Clifford. Thank you to the youth of Saint Pius Catholic Church for joining the clean up and lending a hand!
Magnolia in spring bloom Garden Club to Plant Trees
On Friday, April 21, 2006, Garden Club members assisted with a spring tree planting as the second stage of the Clifford Township Bicentennial Tree Assessment and Planting Project Grant. This community beautification project involved planting thirteen trees of various species at locations on Creamery Road, Main Street and at the Clifford Township Building.
Plans include a Water Garden Garden Club to Assist at Mountain View High School
The Garden Club will assist Chelsea Marcho, a Junior at the Mountain View High School, with an ambitious Senior Project to create an outdoor classroom and memorial garden. To read more, click here.

NEPA Urban & Community Forestry Program Garden Club to Inventory & Plant Trees
The Garden Club will assist Clifford Township and community volunteers to assess the trees and planting sites throughout the Township. To read more, click here.
Restoring a stone wall Garden Club Restores Wall and Plants Trees in Clifford
There has been a beehive of activity throughout Clifford this fall as the Garden Club restored a stone wall and planted trees. To read more, click here

Flowers at Clifford Fire Dept Gardens Planted at the Clifford Township Volunteer Fire Company
As our second Community Project in May 2005, members of the Garden Club donated and planted perennials at the Fire Company. To read more, click here.
